Moving backwards |
Bend the knees, lift alternate feet, and take small steps backwards, allowing the skates to glide a little on each step |

Half snowplough or full snowplough stop |
Skate forwards a little to gain speed, allow your skates to glide, and sit back on your skates, allowing the heel of one skate (half snowplough) or both skates (Full snowplough) to push out. |
The skate blade should skid sideways across the ice rather than trace a line and it is this ‘dragging’ action which causes you to stop. You may need to experiment with different skate Radius of Hollow if you are having problems with this. Perhaps try a shallower hollow. |
Forward skating |
A progession from basic forwards skating learned in badge 1, this time working on posture and technique. Remember to bend your knees, keep your arms outstretched, and try to extend the length of the glide between the steps. |

Two-foot glide on a curve |
Gain some speed and allow both skates to glide as you follow a wide curve, first to the left and then to the right. |
